Walking along the seafront in Ponente, towards the pier, you’ll reach the beautiful Piazza Spose dei Marinai (Sailors Brides Square). Inaugurated in 2005, the square represents an important and meaningful recognition for the wives and mothers who, in the past, waited on the piers and beaches for the return of their loved ones who worked at sea. They scanned the horizon to catch sight of the lugsails decorated with their family symbols.
The bronze sculpture in the centre of the square, created by the artist Quinto Pagliarani, consists of three figures, a mother with her two children, and captures the moment when a child points out the family boat on the horizon.
Since 2019 the Municipality of Cesenatico has made Piazza Spose dei Marinai available for wedding ceremonies: as one of the most fascinating and evocative places on the Romagna coast, the square offers to the couple and their guests one of the most breathtaking views of the canal port, the fishing huts, the sea and the beach.
