A weekend in Cesenatico. What can I do?
What can you do in 48 hours in Cesenatico? If you're not a holiday sloth and want to go beyond the sleepy ritual of relaxation and sunbathing, here's a rich sample of opportunities and occasions for leisure and entertainment for you - from dawn to deep night.
So get on your bike and let yourself be guided by the scents and panoramic views that this incredible seaside town can offer you.
Let's start with the first light of day with the Concerts at Dawn series which, directly on the beach, offers live music to the rhythm of the waves while the elderly collect “poverazze” (small clams) by the sea. After the show, breakfast with hot bomboloni (doughnuts) at the many bars on the shore is a must.
Upon waking, Cesenatico always offers many variations: in addition to the beach, in fact, there are the local markets, the panoramic wheel in Piazza Costa, a visit to the canal port designed by Leonardo with its fishing boats which, preceded by the graceful flights of seagulls, return to the dock after a night of fishing. And if you're lucky, you might even witness the "orec auction" of fish at the fish market.
For those who love art, history, and literature, we recommend a visit to the birthplace of the poet Marino Moretti, but also a tour of the land section of the maritime museum where the history of our tradition is preserved, or a visit to Piazza delle Conserve where, among the fruit and vegetable stalls, the ancient ice houses are still intact. And for sea lovers, a mini-cruise on motorboats is a must to enjoy freshly caught fried trawl fish, “washed down” with a sip of local Sangiovese.
For those without a precise itinerary, however, we recommend a “stroll” through the city on a tandem, a zero-emission vehicle that allows you to admire many views in slow mode. But between one pedal and the next, it's already lunchtime. And here the choice is truly endless. It ranges from typical seafood taverns on the canal to the city's renowned Michelin-starred restaurants. Not to mention that all beach establishments now offer high-quality gastronomy. If you are looking for typical products, it's impossible not to taste the legendary Romagnola piadina with squacquerone cheese and rocket, or filled with the renowned Adriatic sardines.
If you love water parks, we recommend a visit to Atlantica (the kiss in the whale's belly is a “must”) or if you are passionate about cycling, you can always lay a flower on the tomb of Marco Pantani, the most famous sportsman of this land.
In the evening, in addition to the picturesque profusion of markets under the stars, Cesenatico offers a myriad of cultural and musical events and festivals that transform this seaside village into a small Notre Dame. Between opera festivals, live music, and theatrical performances, after dinner there's always a reason to spend an evening in Cesenatico.
