The itinerary crosses the Roman Centuriation, a term referring to an ordered system of dividing the territory into squares of 700 m per side, further divided into 100 parts. The squares are delimited by roads oriented east-west (decumani) and south-north (cardini) that strictly meet at right angles. The Cesena centuriation was created by the Romans between 268 BC and 187 BC. It is one of the best-preserved examples in the world thanks to the efficiency of a highly sophisticated drainage network.
